It Takes Courage
November 15, 2014
8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Join Harbor House and help distribute door hangers with life-saving information about our 24-hour resources. This year we will be meeting at two locations to reach even more neighborhoods. Get your sneakers ready to go door to door, home by home, distributing door hangers with life-saving information about our 24-hour resources for domestic abuse survivors. This fantastic all-volunteer Harbor House event will be held this year on Saturday, November 15th.
Our goal is simple: get the right information to the right people at the right time to save lives.
This will be our fifth It Takes Courage event, and each year has grown to include more volunteers, more corporate groups and more community impact.
Last year, we had 724 volunteers with 45 teams fanned out across Orlando visiting apartment complexes and housing subdivisions. In just 3 hours, 20,323 door hangers were distributed with the message “It Takes Courage to Stop Abuse!” In the 48 hours following the event, we saw a 200% increase in hotline calls. As a result, we had 8 adults, 5 children, and 1 pet seek and enter shelter and 36 people filed for injunctions for safety and protection.
What does that mean? It means YOU can help save lives by being a part of this fun, effective community outreach campaign.
We partner with law enforcement to focus our efforts on communities with the highest incidents of domestic abuse. With the support and protection of these agencies and your involvement, we can make a bigger difference than ever in 2014. Please join us!
