InVEST Advocate: Full-time Exempt Position   

Responsibilities:The InVEST Advocate provides service management, advocacy, support, crisis intervention, safety planning, lethality assessments, and follow-up services to high lethality domestic violence victims referred for services by law enforcement.

Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree in social work, psychology, counseling or related field is required. Professional or other experience may be substituted for formal education at the Chief Executive Officer’s discretion. A minimum of one year of service management experience preferably some of which would include experience in a domestic violence program, Law Enforcement or other related victim advocate experience.  Position requires computer skills, excellent writing skills and ability to work with a survivor data base and Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. Must possess a good driving record, pass a pre-employment drug and background screen and attend a 3 day training to become CORE certified. 

Knowledge and Abilities: Dynamics of domestic violence; basic counseling skills; community resources; problem-solving abilities; rapport with clients in crisis; able to communicate effectively with clients, staff and representatives of law enforcement and community agencies; accurate record keepings. Public speaking and writing skills required.

Youth EducatorPart-time / Hourly, non-exempt, Contract position: through June 2010

Harbor House of Central Florida seeks an experienced Youth Educator for its youth prevention programs. The individual will be responsible for initiating and maintaining youth prevention programs offered by Harbor House of Central Florida in schools and/or community sites programs. He/she will:

  • Promote program objectives and plans within the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Provide co-facilitation, coordination, and organization of prevention programming and relative activities.
  • Identify and structure programs that address youth needs, considering the diversity of the community. 
  • Work as part of an integrated team to promote issue area initiatives.   

Education & Licensing Requirements:  High School diploma or GED.

Experience:  One year minimum experience volunteering or working with children. Experience planning and implementing quality programs for youth. Public speaking and presentation skills. 

Qualifications: Ability to travel and work flexible hours is a requirement of this position.  Ability to work independently with sound judgment.  Ability to prioritize tasks and utilize time and resources effectively. Ability to work with culturally diverse groups of both genders. Position requires computer skills, excellent presentation and communication skills.  Must possess a good driving record, pass a pre-employment drug and background screen.

Housekeeper: Part-time Position

Harbor House is seeking a part-time Housekeeper to ensure the maintenance of safe and well-functioning agency facilities for survivors of domestic violence, including their children and the agency staff.  The onsite facilities include three residential buildings, a childcare center and two administrative/office areas. The Housekeeper is not responsible for the supervision of any other employees. S/he may supervise volunteers. The part-time position includes a 15-20 work scheduled that includes weekends.

Per Diem Advocate: Shelter and/or Childcare

The Advocate provides service management, advocacy, support, crisis intervention, safety planning, lethality assessments, and follow-up services to program participants who primarily are survivors of domestic violence and their families.  Other program participants may include victims of elder abuse, human trafficking, child abuse and sexual assault as it relates to domestic violence.

Per-Diem work may be available during day, evening and overnight shifts on weekdays and weekends in shelter and during childcare hours of operation (7 a.m. - 7 p.m., Monday-Friday). All advocates must be CORE certified and attend a 3 day training prior to working with survivors. 

 

Requirements:

Must be willing to work holidays and weekends.  Position requires computer skills and ability to work with a survivor data base, outlook and word.  Prior experience in advocacy or counseling a plus.  Must be over 21, have a GED or HS (BS preferred), possess a good driving record and be able to pass a pre-employment drug and background screen.  Must be able to attend a 3 day training to become certified.  Bi-lingual – Spanish and/or Creole preferred.
