Safety Planning

Unfortunately, there is no way that a safety plan can absolutely guarantee your safety or that of your loved ones. However, following this plan will reduce the chance that your abuser will have the opportunity to hurt you, or someone else. Remember that you do not have control over your abuser's actions, but you do have control over your own.

If you are in an abusive relationship, you need to take extra care to ensure your safety - and that of your children or others exposed to the abuser's aggression. That's why safety planning is a necessary and important step.

The following tips and advice can help improve your safety situation. However, following these guidelines does not guarantee that you'll be out of harm's way. If you are in danger, call Harbor House.

A safety plan identifies the steps you can take to increase your safety and helps prepare you, minor children, and any other affected family members to act quickly to protect yourselves in the event of future violence. We encourage you to make a plan while you're living with your abuser at a time when the environment is calm.
