Keep a Child Safe

Safety at the Most Dangerous Time

Did you know that thousands of woman left their batterer last year and nearly 400 sought safety at Harbor House? They brought with them what little they could carry and the most precious thing of all - their children. In 2008, 375 children called Harbor House home. It was a safe place for them to heal and experience life without violence. This year, we expect over 400 children, children from our community, your neighborhood, your child's school.

On average, two-thirds of the residents at Harbor House are under the age of 18.  To help the youngest victims of family violence, Harbor House offers a number of services:
  • Basic Needs (room & board, clothing, medical care)
  • Discovery Zone Therapeutic Daycare & School
  • Comprehensive Assessment
  • Counseling
  • Parent Education
  • Support Groups
  • Advocacy
  • Violence Prevention
All services for children are provided free of charge

They Need Your Help

It costs as little as $65 a day to keep a child safe.  This includes a family environment with a warm bed and food prepared by mom, therapeutic daycare or after school care, counseling, medical care and most importantly a place free from violence.  Some stay a few days, others several months. There are several options for giving:
  • $65 for a safe night
  • $100 for safety for a month
  • $1000 to sponsor a child
  • No gift is too small
