WRC Announces 2009 Summit Impact Grant Recipients

The Central Florida Women's Resource Center is pleased to announce the following recipients of the 2009Summit Impact Grant. These grants, totaling over $47,000 are made to fund programs designed to support education, prevention and issues related to sexual assault. The grant winners are:

BETA Center: To introduce a new expressive arts component into on-site Therapeutic Treatment Groups.  Weekly counseling group sessions help BETA teenage moms deal with issues relating to domestic violence, including sexual assault/coercion, self-esteem, and conflict resolution.

Coalition for the Homeless/Women's Residential & Counseling Center: To help provide crisis counseling, case management, advocacy and other victims support services at WRCC. Funding will help the Coalition serve homeless victims of sexual assault.

Court Watch: To provide salary for part-time Program Assistant position for the court monitoring program. Funding will augment a grant from the Liz Claiborne Foundation.

Golden Triangle YMCA: To fund a 16-week martial arts program for 50-100 young and mature women. The program will demonstrate and educate different measures to protect women from sexual assault.

Haven of Lake and Sumter Counties: To broaden the reach of Haven's sexual assault education and prevention activities. Expenses include office expenses, rape response kits, clothing and toiletries for rape calls, staff on-call expenses and mileage, and telephone expenses for the 24 hour hotline.

Harbor House of Central Florida: To provide funding for "Love Is Not Abuse", an Orange County high school program which builds young people's awareness of how to make healthy choices in relationships and what to do if they are in abusive ones.

Kids House of Seminole: To fund psychotherapeutic and support services for sexually abused adolescent females, and their adult mothers and female caregivers. Treatment includes very specific education and prevention efforts of any further trauma or re-victimization due to sexual abuse.

Lutheran Counseling Services: To continue funding "Women Empowered: Discovering & Claiming Strengths", a program that provides education and therapeutic intervention to women in disempowered relationships or affected by sexual violation.

Orlando Health Foundation-Healing Tree: To purchase educational supplies and tools to aid in Healing Tree's sexual trauma therapy services, providing specialized psychotherapy for child victim of sexual abuse..

PACE Center for Girls: To provide individual and group sessions to teenage girls and young women regarding sexual assault, interpersonal violence and physical dating violence.

Safehouse of Seminole: To fund a Teen Dating Violence Prevention Curriculum and to replenish the "Comfort Fund" which provides coffee, tea, bottled water, tissues and comfort snacks for weekly groups.

Victim Service Center/SATC: To purchase supplies for a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. Items will provide comfort to rape victims and secure correct collection of forensic evidence.
