Volunteerism with Harbor House of Central Florida Boosts
Orlando ASIS Chapter to Win Community Service Award
Orlando, FL (August 27, 2009) -- Harbor House of Central Florida is proud to announce that they have been awarded a $1,000 check as a result of community-wide efforts by the Orlando Chapter of ASIS recognized nationally through a community service award.
The Greater Orlando Chapter of ASIS was recently chosen by the ASIS International awards committee as the recipient of the 2008 ASIS Community Service Award. The new ASIS International community service award allows each of its 200 chapters around the world to nominate partnerships with nonprofits. The award recognizes the outstanding community achievements of its chapters and also provides $1,000 to the community cause where winning chapters have dedicated their time and volunteerism. The Greater Orlando Chapter of ASIS presented a $1000 check to Harbor House CEO Carol Wick as part of this award at a luncheon ceremony in Orlando, Florida.
“Nearly all our chapters, large and small, dedicate resources to local charitable efforts,” says Michael R. Cummings, CPP, president of ASIS International. “They raise money for law enforcement organizations, for Toys for Tots, for food pantries, for injured soldiers, and for families who have suddenly lost a loved one.”
In addition to the community service award grant, ASIS of Greater Orlando has provided Harbor House with over 200 hours of volunteer time, designed a security system for the new Discovery Zone Children’s Center, and donated cash, gifts and cell phones valued at $2700.
“We are honored that ASIS International has chosen The Central Florida Chapter for its work with Harbor House,” says Carol Wick, CEO. “The ASIS volunteers have been vital partner in the development of our security system and safety planning for our emergency campus. They understand the serious nature of domestic violence and are true partners in the survivors we serve. Harbor House is proud to be affiliated with ASIS.”
