The Benefit of Helping Others

Imagine a world in which we all strived to be kinder, more caring, and more mindful of the struggles that those around us are experiencing. What might seem trivial to you could be considered a luxury to someone else, such as a domestic abuse survivor, who left a dire situation with nothing but the clothes on their back. The next time you grab a toothbrush or snuggle up in bed, take a moment to remember that others do not have access to the same amenities. It’s scary to be present in a situation in which domestic abuse is involved, and it’s certainly not easy starting over – but it’s always worth it.

Each day you have the ability to put a smile on someone’s face and make a difference. In the words of Leo Buscaglia, “Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” We truly can be the change we wish to see in the world, and that change starts with you.

The next time you are out shopping for everyday essentials, such as deodorant, body wash, shampoo, or toothpaste, grab an extra one to help someone in need. Our Buy One, Give One campaign focuses on the idea of giving. It’s an easy way to incorporate kindness into your weekly routine. Even if you are only able to donate one or two items, your generous contribution will serve a purpose. No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.
