 Shelter Services Advocate

  • Full Time – Friday-Monday, 3 pm-12:30 am: Bilingual Preferred (Spanish/English) 
  • Full Time – Friday-Sunday, 7 pm-8 am: Bilingual Preferred (Spanish/English)
  • Part Time – Monday-Thursday, 4:30 pm-9:30 pm: Bilingual Preferred (Spanish/English)
  • Per Diem – This position has no set schedule but provides shelter coverage as needed

Harbor House is seeking an experienced, dynamic individual to provide advocacy, support, crisis intervention, safety planning and lethality assessments to survivors of domestic violence residing in the emergency shelter.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of an undergraduate degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field. Professional experience may be substituted for formal education at the discretion of the Chief Executive Officer.

This position requires knowledge of case management skills, the ability to provide effective and immediate crisis intervention for clients, and to facilitate support groups. Basic to intermediate computer skills are required. A minimum of one year of case management experience preferably in a domestic violence program. Must attend a 3 day training in order to become CORE certified prior to working with survivors. The position requires a  current, valid Florida drivers’ license, a safe driving record and  reliable transportation.

Facilities Technician
Full time 

Harbor House is seeking a qualified Facilities Technician to ensure the maintenance of safe and well-functioning agency facilities, grounds and equipment for survivors of domestic violence, including their children and the agency staff.

The ideal candidate must possess a knowledge of functioning of equipment and the ability perform a wide variety of repairs.  A high school diploma/GED and/or vocational training in facility maintenance and repairs preferred. A minimum of 2-3 years of facility repairs and maintenance experience.

The position requires a  current, valid Florida drivers’ license, a safe driving record and  reliable transportation. Ability to lift 40 lbs.Must attend a 3 day training in order to become CORE certified prior to working with survivors.

Kennel Technician
Part time

 Harbor House is seeking a qualified individual to provide for the general care and maintenance of the Harbor House kennel and shelter animals. This includes maintaining and operating the kennel in a sanitary and efficient manner as well as ensuring that all necessary services for humane feeding, watering, and caring for animals on the campus are completed.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma/GED and/or vocational training. Professional experience may be substituted for formal education at the discretion of the Chief Executive Officer.

This position requires the ability to lift 65 lbs.  2-3 years of kennel maintenance, animal health, nutrition, and humane care experience preferred. Must attend a 3 day training in order to become CORE certified prior to working with survivors. The position requires a  current, valid Florida drivers’ license, a safe driving record and  reliable transportation.

Children’s Advocate
Per Diem-This position has no set schedule but provides shelter coverage as needed

 Harbor House is seeking an experienced, dynamic individual to maintain a safe, nurturing, developmentally appropriate environment for the children of domestic violence victims residing at a domestic violence agency.  In addition, duties include providing hands-on activities, implementation of curriculum and general facility/classroom cleaning. When necessary the Children’s Advocate is responsible for providing crisis intervention, information, and referral to victims of domestic violence.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a High School diploma or GED. Prefer: CDA, 45 hour DCF training, CPR/First-Aid. This position will require employees to pass the State of Florida requirements for child care providers. Professional or non-professional experience may be substituted for formal education at the discretion of the Chief Executive Officer.

This position requires knowledge of basic child growth and development; indicators of abuse; ability to respond to children and adults in crisis; to lift and hold 40-pound children; to learn the dynamics and effects of domestic violence on children and adults. Basic computer skills are required. Must attend a 3 day training in order to become CORE certified prior to working with survivors. A current, valid Florida drivers’ license and a safe driving record are required for this position.

Youth Prevention Coordinator
Part-Time

 Harbor House is seeking an experienced, dynamic individual to provide support to Project Courage and implementing primary prevention initiatives for Harbor House of Central Florida.  S/he supports the prevention department in its mission to end abuse in a concentrated community using evidence-based evaluation and processes. 

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of an undergraduate degree in Education or Social Services related field.    Professional or non-professional experience may be substituted for formal education at the discretion of the Chief Executive Officer. Previous experience in managing and coordinating grant administration, developing and implementing community based programs, creating and conducting presentations and trainings, and public speaking is preferred.

This position requires the ability to gather/compile and analyze research, to prepare professional written reports and presentations, conduct community and professional education, as well as the ability to provide leadership in a work and community settings. Basic to intermediate computer skills are required. Must attend a 3 day training in order to become CORE certified prior to working with survivors. A current, valid Florida drivers’ license and a safe driving record are required for this position.
