Children’s Advocate
Part-Time Position

Harbor House is seeking an experienced, dynamic individual to maintain a safe, nurturing, developmentally appropriate environment for the children of domestic violence victims residing at a domestic violence agency.  In addition, duties include providing hands-on activities, implementation of curriculum and general facility/classroom cleaning. When necessary the Children’s Advocate is responsible for providing crisis intervention, information, and referral to victims of domestic violence. Uses agency van to provide transportation to residents and assists shelter residents in meeting their physical needs.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum High School diploma or GED. Prefer: CDA, 45 hour DCF training, CPR/First-Aid. A Minimum of one years’ experience in the early childhood field is required. This position will require employees to pass the State of Florida requirements for child care providers. This position requires the knowledge of basic child growth and development; indicators of abuse; ability to respond to children and adults in crisis; to lift and hold 40-pound children; to learn the dynamics and effects of domestic violence on children and adults.Basic computer skills are required. A current, valid Florida drivers’ license and a safe driving record are required for this position. Must pass a pre-employment drug and background screen and attend a three day training to become CORE certified.  Professional or non-professional experience may be substituted for formal education at the discretion of the Chief Executive Officer.

 

Shelter Services Advocate
Full-time  

*Bilingual preferred-  Creole/English

Harbor House is seeking an experienced, dynamic individual to provide advocacy, support, crisis intervention, safety planning and lethality assessments to survivors of domestic violence residing in the emergency shelter. 

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of an undergraduate degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field is required.  A minimum of one year of case management experience preferably in a domestic violence program is required.Professional experience may be substituted for formal education at the discretion of the Chief Executive Officer.

This position requires knowledge of case management skills, the ability to provide effective and immediate crisis intervention for clients, and to facilitate support groups. Basic to intermediate computer skills are required. A current, valid Florida drivers’ license and a safe driving record are required for this position. Must pass a pre-employment drug and background screen and attend a three day training to become CORE certified.

Ability to read, write, and speak fluently in both  English and Creole is preferred.

 

InVest (Intimate Violence Enhanced Services Team) Advocate
Full-Time 

*Bilingual – English/Spanish

Harbor House is seeking an experienced, dynamic individual to provide service management, advocacy, support, crisis intervention, safety planning, lethality assessments, and follow-up services to participants referred for services by the Florida Department of Children & Families (DCF).

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of an undergraduate degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related field is required.  Minimum of one year in of service management experience preferably in a domestic violence program, law enforcement, or other related victim advocate program. Experience working with DCF or knowledge of the dependency court process is preferred.  Professional experience may be substituted for formal education at the discretion of the Chief Executive Officer.

This position requires knowledge of case management skills, basic counseling skills, community resources, the ability to provide effective and immediate crisis intervention for clients, ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Basic to intermediate computer skills are required skills and ability to work with a survivor data base and Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. A current, valid Florida drivers’ license and a safe driving record are required for this position. Must pass a pre-employment drug and background screen and attend a three day training to become CORE certified.

Ability to read, write, and speak fluently in both English and Spanish is preferred.

Outreach Advocate
Full-time 

*Bilingual (Spanish/English)

Harbor House is seeking a qualified individual to provide crisis counseling, case management, advocacy support, risk assessment, safety planning, and follow up services to survivors of domestic violence who do not reside in the emergency shelter. Works with other community service providers in the Bithlo Community to establish a referral base for clients to access needed services.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of an undergraduate degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field is required. A minimum of one year of case management experience preferably in a domestic violence program. Professional experience may be substituted for formal education at the discretion of the Chief Executive Officer.

Must read, write and speak fluently in both English and Spanish. This position requires knowledge of case management skills, the ability to provide effective and immediate crisis intervention for clients, and to facilitate support groups. Additionally applicants must possess knowledge of Hispanic community resources as well as a knowledge and understanding of the Hispanic culture. Basic to intermediate computer skills are required and the ability to work with a survivor data base and Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. Executive Administrative Assistant to CEO
Full Time

Harbor House is seeking an experienced, dynamic individual to perform a variety of responsible administrative duties that includes but is not limited to providing administrative support to the Chief Executive Officer and Board of Directors. The successful candidate must possess excellent attention to detail, organizational, computer and customer service skills. This position reports directly to the CEO.

A minimum of 1 year experience as an Executive Assistant is required.  Data Entry, writing skills, strong computer and communication skills and clean driving record required. All applicants must attend a 3 day training in order to become CORE certified within 90 day of hire.  Must pass a pre-employment drug and background screen. All employees must be comfortable dealing with the issue of domestic abuse, domestic abuse survivors and high stress situations surrounding our work.

Shelter Assistant
Full-time Position

Great entry level job to the right individual.

Harbor House is seeking 2 qualified individuals willing to roll up their sleeves and help keep the shelter, Paws for Peace kennel, Donation Center and office spaces clean. In addition, this position is responsible for interfacing with our donors dropping off in-kind donations and maintains inventory system. One day you may be working with animals in the kennel and the next deep cleaning in the kitchens.  Ensures residential and office spaces are stocked with necessary supplies.

The ideal candidate will have a  minimum of a high school diploma/GED and 1 year of commercial cleaning experience is required. Previous warehouse, logistics, stock, receiving, inventory experience is strongly preferred. Must have intermediate computer skills and strong organization skills. Ability to detail clean. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands, and is required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, sit, walk reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 65 pounds. May have contact with animals in the kennel-so the ideal candidate will be comfortable working with and around animals. Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 9 hours).  A current, valid Florida drivers’ license and a safe driving record are required for this position. Must pass a pre-employment drug and background screen and attend a three day training to become CORE certified.
